Als die Warnung eines Anrufers zur Realität wurde
Der „Große Sturm“ von 1987 bleibt ein lebendiges Erinnerungsbild für alle, die die Zerstörung hautnah erlebten. Mit Windgeschwindigkeiten von bis zu 185 km/h riss der Sturm Bäume aus, beschädigte zahlreiche Gebäude und hinterließ eine Spur der Verwüstung. Etwa 18 Menschen verloren ihr Leben, und erschreckende 15 Millionen Bäume wurden zerstört.
Bemerkenswert wird die Tragödie durch die Weitsicht einer Frau, die den Sturm vorausgesehen hatte. Am 15. Oktober 1987 rief sie besorgt bei der BBC an, um vor einem aufkommenden Sturm zu warnen. Doch der damalige Wettermoderator Michael Fish ließ die Warnung mit einem unbeeindruckten Lächeln abtropfen.
