Sinds Brooke Shields als kind haar eerste stappen in de acteerwereld zette met optredens in reclames en haar tijd als kindmodel, werd ze gedreven door de ambitie om internationaal door te breken. Haar rol in “The Blue Lagoon”, hoewel omstreden, zette haar op de internationale kaart en maakte haar tot de jongste vrouw die ooit op de cover van Vogue verscheen.
