Terwijl Jim Carrey’s eigen leven soms meer op een tragikomedie leek dan op het bestaan van een komedie icoon, vervulde hij met verve zijn rol als vader voor zijn dochter. In 1987, na een rommelige romantiek met Melissa Womer, een serveerster met acteerambities, verwelkomde hij Jane Carrey in de wereld.
