A vida de Hardy Kruger foi dura. O ator alemão foi convocado para o esquadrão nazista da SS, mas depois que ele se recusou a obedecer às ordens dos extremistas, ele fugiu e se escondeu até que a guerra acabasse. Hoje, ele é um dos artistas alemães mais aclamados, tendo aparecido também em produções mundiais como Hatai! e Uma ponte longe demais. Ele se aposentou nos anos 80 e seu planejamento financeiro para a aposentadoria foi bastante surpreendente. Ele agora trabalha como escritor e lançou muitos livros nas últimas décadas.
